Lab Engineer - Robotics & Automation

job summary:
We are seeking a hands-on Lab Engineer to support next-generation robotics systems for multi-purpose use. In this role, you will own and operate key test environments, maintain prototype hardware uptime, and perform critical electro-mechanical verification testing. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing System Verification and Validation team as new lab facilities come online in Massachusetts.

responsibilities:

• Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot test environments, control systems, and specialized lab equipment to ensure high test availability.
• Perform physical robot repairs, hardware reworks, and prototype fabrication to keep testing on schedule.
• Set up, calibrate, and execute tests using optical motion capture systems, force plates, and automated test fixtures.
• Interpret CAD models, electrical schematics, and SOPs to build test setups and evaluate subsystem performance.
• Document findings by producing detailed test reports, work instructions, and continuous improvement SOPs.

qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or above in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline).

5+ years of experience in a technical lab, robotics, electro-mechanical, or automation setting.

Strong background in diagnosing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems, control systems (PLC, I/O), and hardware test rigs.

Proven ability to safely operate equipment following safety protocols (LOTO, safety interlocks).

Ability to interpret complex engineering documentation, schematics, and mechanical drawings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience operating, calibrating, and post-processing data from optical motion capture systems (Vicon, OptiTrack).

Programming experience in Python and/or C++ for testing and data analysis.

Experience integrating third-party sensors and gantry control platforms.
