Clinical Ethicist Details Position Summary: We seek a skilled andknowledgeable colleague to join our team in conducting clinicalconsultations and providing guidance to enhance the ethical climateof our institution. Candidates should demonstrate success inproviding high-quality clinical ethics consultation, ethicseducation, and policy development in both clinical and academicsettings. This is a full-time position, and the majority of workwill be conducted in-person at University of Utah hospitals,clinics, and campuses in and near Salt Lake City, UT. The clinical ethicist will join the Clinic Ethics ConsultationProgram, which is housed in the University of Utah Center forHealth Ethics, Arts, and Humanities. The Center connects scholarsand clinicians across campus, with strong ties to the S. J. QuinneyCollege of Law, Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, College ofNursing, College of Pharmacy, and Department of Philosophy. TheCenter supports robust education, research, and clinical work inbioethics and the arts and humanities as they intersect withhealthcare. The Division of General Internal Medicine in theDepartment of Internal Medicine will be the candidate's academichome. Responsibilities: The clinical ethicist willindependently conduct ethics consultations, document consultationsin the electronic health record, and provide embedded ethicssupport to critical care units within the hospital. The clinical ethicist must be comfortable operating in the clinical context,including engaging directly with care providers, professionalstaff, patients, and families. The clinical ethicist willcollaborate with other members of the clinical ethics program toensure the delivery of high-quality ethics consultation services.Faculty track will be dependent upon qualifications. Minimum Requirements: Terminal degree (PhD, JD, MD, DO or equivalent) in Bioethics,Nursing, Medicine, Law, or related field (e.g., Divinity, SocialWork), with preference for those with advanced degrees in clinicalethics or related field. At least three years of experience providing ethicsconsultations in a healthcare environment. If hired on the Clinical Track, board eligibility or HEC-Ccertification eligibility is required. Preferences: Formal fellowship training in clinical ethics and/or otheradvanced training in bioethics. Board Certification or Certification through Healthcare EthicsConsultant-Certified Program (HEC-C).
