Motor Vehicle Mechanic- Fort Polk LA

ValCorp is seeking an experienced Motor Vehicle Mechanic to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and overhaul motor vehicles and military equipment in support of the Fort Polk mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Repair, rebuild, or overhaul major assemblies of internal-combustion automobiles and military vehicles.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions, isolate causes, and determine the extent of repairs required.
  • Replace worn or broken engine parts; grind and adjust valves; rebuild carburetors; and overhaul transmissions.
  • Repair fuel-injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using technical manuals, lifting devices, and hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Perform assigned work in accordance with applicable technical manuals, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Support assembly and disassembly activities and recommend maintenance-procedure improvements when appropriate.
  • Complete required maintenance records and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain required facility credentials or authorization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of vehicle-maintenance experience through formal schooling, apprenticeship, equivalent training, or verifiable on-the-job experience.
  • Knowledge of engine operating theory, components, accessories, diagnostic methods, and repair practices.
  • Valid and current state driver's license and ability to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Ability to obtain site forklift and other required licenses or certifications.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, service bulletins, diagrams, data tables, publications, and safety rules.
  • Ability to manipulate hand tools and hydraulic equipment and complete required maintenance paperwork.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must provide and maintain their own General Mechanics Toolbox suitable for performing all assigned maintenance and repair duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining and repairing military tactical vehicles, HMMWVs, LMTVs, FMTVs, trailers, ATVs, and related equipment.
  • ASE and/or diesel mechanic certification.
  • Experience with field repairs and recovery operations.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation and use proper lifting practices.
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles of various sizes and heights and work at heights when required.
  • Work may occur outdoors in extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain, and blowing dust.
  • Work may involve prolonged stooping, climbing, standing, or sitting and exposure to distracting or uncomfortable noise levels.

Additional Employment Information

  • This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement applicable at Fort Polk.
  • Second-shift premium is $0.75 per hour and third-shift premium is $1.25 per hour when applicable.
  • The selected employee must comply with applicable safety rules, use required Personal Protective Equipment, and maintain required licenses or certifications.
