Job Details Job Location: Administration - Federal Heights, CO 80260 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $42,100.00 - $58,900.00 Salary/year Staff Accountant Department: Finance Reports To: Director of Finance FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Summary Under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Staff Accountant performs professional accounting work in support of the District's general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, and related financial operations. This position helps ensure the accuracy, timeliness, integrity, and audit readiness of financial records across the District's facilities and revenue systems. During peak operational periods, the Staff Accountant also trains and provides day-to-day supervision to seasonal accounting staff supporting chargeback and limited cash-handling functions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, including monthly bank, revenue, and balance sheet reconciliations. Processes and reviews accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions to ensure accuracy, appropriate authorization, and proper coding. Assists with month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Supports the integration and reconciliation of point-of-sale and other revenue activity from multiple District facilities into centralized financial records and reporting. Administers the District's chargeback process, including researching, documenting, reconciling, and resolving discrepancies. Performs limited cash-handling responsibilities and supports cash-vault procedures and established internal controls. Trains, schedules, assigns work to, and provides day-to-day supervision of seasonal accounting staff during peak operational periods, primarily related to chargeback and cash-handling processes. Prepares financial schedules, records, and supporting documentation for the annual audit and other financial or compliance requirements. Assists with budget preparation, variance analysis, financial reporting, and other accounting projects as assigned. Maintains financial records and documentation in accordance with established District procedures, internal controls, and applicable record-retention requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); knowledge of governmental accounting standards and practices preferred. Knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and basic financial reporting practices. Proficiency with accounting and financial software and intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation. Ability to understand and follow internal controls, financial policies, and established accounting procedures. Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively during periods of increased workload. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when handling sensitive financial and employee information. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train, direct, and support seasonal staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, auditors, and other stakeholders. Working Environment/Physical Activities Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with prolonged periods of computer use. May be required to work additional hours, weekends, or adjusted schedules during peak operational periods, particularly during the summer season. Occasional travel between District facilities may be required. Regularly operates standard office equipment and communicates with employees, vendors, and other stakeholders in person, by telephone, and electronically. Requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and occasionally move or transport files, records, and other office materials. Education and Experience Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field, supplemented by relevant accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field preferred. Previous experience involving general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting, or similar accounting functions preferred. Experience with governmental, fund, or public-sector accounting is preferred. Relevant accounting or governmental finance certification is preferred but not required.
