Lisa Cole with Robert Half is working with a growing company that is adding an Accounting Manager to the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, leadership experience as well has experience managing sales and use tax reporting for multiple states. This is an in the office position based in Sacramento.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting functions and support accurate, timely financial reporting.
• Take a hands-on role in month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Review work and appropriately allocate responsibilities across the accounting team.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff.
• Lead multi-state sales and use tax compliance, reporting, filings, and reconciliations.
• Serve as the internal subject matter expert on sales and use tax matters.
• Research and interpret multi-state contractor, manufacturer, retailer, and fabrication tax regulations.
• Maintain exemption and resale certificates, business registrations, and tax documentation.
• Determine tax treatment for furnish-only and furnish-and-install contracts.
• Identify manufacturing exemptions, tax incentives, and tax-saving opportunities.
• Lead state and local sales and use tax audits and manage responses, appeals, and refund claims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong hands-on accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
• Strong multi-state sales and use tax compliance and research experience.
• Knowledge of sales/use tax exemptions, audits, and state-specific regulations.
• Manufacturing and/or construction industry experience highly preferred.
• Ability to balance hands-on responsibilities with team leadership and delegation.
• Strong analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills.
