The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center is looking to hire a Facility Maintenance Worker. This is varied and responsible facility maintenance work. The Facility Maintenance Worker performs a broad range of semi-skilled maintenance tasks to include minor painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs. This position is characterized by significant time spent independently performing semi-skilled maintenance work. Employees exercise judgment and discretion in identifying and completing necessary maintenance and repair tasks under the general supervision of a higher-level supervisor.

The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center is a place where nearly a half a million people gather each year to share, learn, grow, plan, design, and connect with one another. From formal events like conventions and conferences to public events like Dane Dances, Monona Terrace has wide geographical draw attracting local, regional, state, and international events each year. This Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building is a treasured community asset that has far reaching economic, business and quality of life impacts. This facility is located in the heart of Madison's vibrant downtown on the shore of Lake Monona, two blocks from the State Capitol. Its spectacular multi-level structure features public promenades, meeting rooms with striking lake views, and the attached 240-room Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. In addition to 85,000 square feet of interior function space, gracing the rooftop are 68,000 square feet of gardens that may be reserved for events. Meeting/exhibition space includes a 40,000 square foot exhibit hall, a 14,000 square foot ballroom, 315 seat lecture hall and 20 additional meeting rooms totaling 28,000 square feet. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Operate, schedule, and maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, including using a computerized building automated system:

• Perform maintenance on building systems, including preventative maintenance
• Troubleshoot and repair minor issues with HVAC systems
• Lock and un-lock doors
• Service water softener
• Record maintenance and operational data relative to building systems, including in a computerized building maintenance management system

Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled building maintenance tasks:

• Paint walls and ceilings
• Install door locks and latches
• Hang doors
• Replace and tar flashings
• Build shelves
• Install light switches, lamps, ballasts, wall outlets, and lighting fixtures
• Replace faucet washers and flush valves
• Weather-strip doors and windows
• Change air and water filters
• Cement or caulk wall and floor cracks in concrete construction
• Move and maintain office furniture and equipment
• Oil and replace chair casters; recover desk tops; lubricate drawer slides
• Install new plugs on electrical appliances
• Plow and shovel snow
• Adjust/replace paver tiles
• Pressure washing

Initiate and/or prioritize work assignments as required to meet established maintenance objectives. Maintain an inventory of necessary cleaning and maintenance supplies. Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience performing varied custodial, building maintenance, or repair work including the use of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials common to this work.
• -OR-
• One (1) year of experience performing varied custodial, building maintenance, or repair work including the use of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials common to this work AND Technical diploma in an Industrial Maintenance/Mechanic or related program.
• -OR-
• Associate's degree in Industrial Maintenance/Mechanics or related field AND Familiarity with Common hand and power tools utilized in building maintenance.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver's license. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and 100+ pounds on occasion; and perform work while walking/standing for a large percentage of time. Employees will have to climb ladders and scaffolding, and operate a scissors lift. In addition, they must be able to frequently bend, twist, squat, climb and crawl in tight spaces, and reach. This position requires the employee to work outdoors in all types of weather.
