Pharmacy TechnicianIt's more than a career, it's a callingWI-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - MadisonWorker Type: RegularJob Highlights:This is a full-time night shift Pharmacy Technician position for St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.Schedule: 7 days on/7 days offHours: 8:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.Differential pay is available for night shift and weekend shift.Job Summary:Under direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to standard procedures, transcribes, prepares medication orders, assists in dispensing and delivery and ensures proper storage and security of medications. This position is responsible for non-sterile and/or sterile compounding, utilizing pharmacy automation systems, and accurately maintaining required documentation. Also serves as a resource by training others in technical skills and participating in audit processes to ensure compliance and quality standards.Job Responsibilities and Requirements:PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESAssists in the preparation of medication orders that may include transcription, workflow management, automation utilization, and medication readiness for checking, dispensing, and delivery. Conducts non-sterile and/or sterile compounding of medications.Distributes medications to designated areas and returns unused, discontinued, or damaged doses to the pharmacy. Properly utilizes automation, problem solving, when necessary, to ensure medications are secure and in-date in their area of use.Supports inventory management activities that include receipt, storage, security, and inspection. Ensures that inventory areas are clean, and that inventory is rotated, in-date and properly labeled.Adheres to regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards. Completes all documentation and maintains records in compliance with standard procedures. Promotes a safe practice environment and reports situations that may lead to safety events in addition to safety events that occur.Provides excellent customer service to patients, other staff and ancillary departments and maintains high standards of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Conducts reviews and audits, as assigned, to identify gaps in workflows, regulatory compliance, and safety. Reports findings and helps identify action plans to close gaps.Maintains proficiency in at least five documented pharmacy competencies in at least two competency categories.Teaches competencies skills to others including technicians, students, and pharmacists.Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma/GED or education equivalency for licensing.EXPERIENCEOne year experience as a pharmacy technicianPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSFrequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
