Group Leader - Maintenance

Description

Lead second-shift maintenance activities for the Global Artisan Innovation Center Body Shop and Paint area. The Maintenance Group Leader will guide skilled maintenance personnel, protect people and equipment, and keep body assembly, welding, paint, and related support systems ready for safe and reliable operation. This role supports the center’s pre-production mission by responding to equipment issues, improving preventive maintenance, and developing the team’s technical capability.

The Role

The Global Artisan Innovation Center brings together product, process, and technology innovation in a pre-production environment. In the Body Shop and Paint area, the maintenance team supports vehicle sheet-metal assembly, welding, paint, validation, equipment preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement.

As the 2nd Shift Maintenance Group Leader, you will be the on-shift leader for maintenance execution. You will set priorities, coach the team, partner with production and engineering, and drive solutions that improve safety, equipment availability, quality, and delivery.

What you’ll do

• Lead and support second-shift maintenance work across the Body Shop and Paint area.

• Set daily priorities for preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.

• Coach and develop maintenance team members through clear expectations, standard work, training, and feedback.

• Reinforce safe work practices, energy-control requirements, personal protective equipment, and environmental expectations.

• Coordinate troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, robotic, welding, conveyor, paint, ventilation, and material- handling equipment.

• Partner with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Safety, Facilities, and outside service providers to resolve issues and protect build schedules.

• Review shift conditions, open work, equipment concerns, and staffing needs; provide complete handoffs to other shifts.

• Monitor work-order execution, preventive-maintenance completion, downtime, repeat failures, and parts availability.

• Use data and structured problem solving to eliminate recurring equipment issues and improve reliability.

• Support equipment installations, modifications, commissioning, process changes, and continuous-improvement projects.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure work is completed to approved procedures and standards.

• Help identify training needs and build the technical depth needed to support a flexible pre-production operation.

• Respond calmly and decisively during equipment disruptions while communicating status, risks, and recovery actions.

Your skills and abilities — required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Five or more years of industrial, automotive, manufacturing, or similar maintenance experience.

• Two or more years of experience leading, coordinating, or supervising maintenance work or a skilled-trades team.

• Demonstrated knowledge of industrial mechanical and electrical systems, including troubleshooting methods.

• Experience with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, work-order prioritization, and equipment reliability.

• Working knowledge of safe work practices, energy control, hazard recognition, and regulatory requirements applicable to industrial maintenance.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.

• Ability to work a fixed second shift and provide overtime, weekend, or off-shift support when business needs require it.

• Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively with hourly employees, salaried leaders, engineers, production partners, contractors, and suppliers.

Preferred qualifications (What can give you a Competitive Edge)

• Previous experience leading managing a unionized workforce.

• Associate degree or technical certificate in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, controls, or a related field.

• Experience in automotive body shop, paint shop, welding, robotics, conveyors, paint systems, or pre-production manufacturing.

• Experience with computerized maintenance-management systems and maintenance performance measures. (Maximo)

• Training or certification in industrial electrical, programmable logic controls, robotics, welding, safety, or reliability.

• Experience leading structured problem solving, lean manufacturing, or continuous- improvement activities.

• Experience supporting equipment installations, launches, process changes, or highly variable production requirements.
