The Chief of Hospital Medicine at Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Hospital Medicine services across CMHs acute care hospitals. This physician leader is responsible for advancing high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care while supporting CMHs mission to improve the health of our communities through accessible, compassionate, and coordinated care.
\nThe Chief works collaboratively with the President and CEO of CMH, the President of the two critical access hospitals, the Chief Medical Officer, nursing leadership, and medical staff leaders to ensure consistent clinical standards, effective staffing models, and strong physician engagement across both tertiary and critical access settings.

Clinical & Program Leadership
\n- \n
- Provide overall clinical leadership for Hospital Medicine services at Central Maine Medical Center, Bridgton Hospital, and Rumford Hospital. \n
- Ensure high-quality, evidence-based inpatient care that reflects CMH clinical standards and patient safety priorities. \n
- Serve as a clinical role model and maintain active clinical practice appropriate to the role and site needs. \n
- Support patient flow, length-of-stay management, and effective care transitions across the system. \n
Physician Leadership & Engagement
\n- \n
- Lead, recruit, retain, and develop hospitalists and advanced practice providers across CMH facilities. \n
- Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. \n
- Partner with Medical Staff leadership and Human Resources on performance management, peer review, coaching, and physician wellness. \n
- Support leadership development and succession planning within the Hospital Medicine program. \n
Quality, Safety & Experience
\n- \n
- Lead system-wide quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, clinical outcomes, and patient experience. \n
- Collaborate with CMH Quality, Risk Management, and Infection Prevention teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. \n
- Use data and performance metrics to drive improvement in clinical outcomes and operational performance. \n
Operations & Financial Stewardship
\n- \n
- Partner with hospital and system leadership to develop sustainable staffing and coverage models appropriate to CMHs mix of tertiary and rural hospitals. \n
- Support budget development, productivity expectations, and resource utilization for Hospital Medicine services. \n
- Reduce reliance on temporary staffing through effective workforce planning and engagement strategies. \n
System Collaboration & Integration

- Work closely with nursing leadership, care management, emergency medicine, specialty services, and post-acute partners to ensure coordinated inpatient care. \n
- Support alignment of Hospital Medicine practices across sites while respecting the unique needs of Bridgton and Rumford Hospitals. \n
- Participate in CMH medical staff leadership committees and system-wide clinical initiatives. \n
Education & Professional Development
\n- \n
- Support teaching and mentoring of hospitalists, advanced practice providers, residents, and students, as applicable. \n
- Encourage continuing medical education, leadership development, and engagement in quality or scholarly activities. \n

\n
- \n
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school \n
- Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine \n
- Eligible for or current Maine medical licensure and CMH medical staff appointment \n
- Demonstrated clinical excellence in inpatient medicine \n
- Proven leadership experience in Hospital Medicine or a comparable physician leadership role \n
Preferred

- Experience leading Hospital Medicine programs in community or rural hospital settings \n
- Experience working in multi-site or system-based healthcare organizations \n
- Demonstrated success in quality improvement, physician engagement, or operational redesign \n
