Job Title: Field Service Technician Job Description

The Field Service Technician will serve as a Field Service Engineer focused on deep, system-level investigations of an advanced drone system at commercial operations sites. This role drives improved reliability across ultra-fast drone delivery operations by troubleshooting issues, rapidly identifying safe solutions, and supporting the launch and sustainment of new drone delivery locations. You will work closely with engineering and operations teams to analyze performance data, implement technical improvements, and ensure the drone system operates with a high degree of reliability and safety.

• Conduct daily system-level investigations of the drone system at commercial operations sites to identify root causes of technical issues and performance anomalies.
• Troubleshoot and debug mechanical, electrical, and software-related problems on drones and associated equipment, ensuring safe and timely return to service.
• Support new drone delivery sites by provisioning site equipment, setting up systems, and verifying readiness for commercial operations.
• Program and execute check flights to validate nominal performance and confirm that all systems meet operational and safety requirements before site launch.
• Collaborate closely with design engineering, service engineering, and operations teams to communicate field findings and recommend design improvements or mitigations.
• Leverage data-driven insights to identify reliability and performance trends, and lead the implementation of system improvements based on those insights.
• Document technical issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions clearly and accurately for use by engineering, operations, and product support teams.
• Translate complex system behaviors and technical concepts into clear, digestible insights for stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
• Act as a core member of the Product Support Organization (PSO) Engineering team, serving as the first line between operator and maintainer experiences and design engineering changes.
• Use project management skills and tools to track engineering tasks, reliability initiatives, and operational improvements from conception through completion.
• Partner with operations teams to resolve urgent issues quickly and effectively, minimizing downtime and maintaining high service levels.
• Travel up to approximately 30% of the time to support field operations, new site deployments, and on-site investigations.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Proven experience troubleshooting and debugging complex technical systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components.
• Experience scripting in modern programming languages to support data analysis, automation, or diagnostic tools.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, including organizing tasks, managing timelines, and coordinating cross-functional work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create clear technical documentation and communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to various operational sites.
• Hands-on experience using hand tools for repair, maintenance, assembly, and adjustment of technical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to guide troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Field service experience working on technical systems, equipment, or machinery in operational environments.
• Experience performing maintenance and repair on electro-mechanical systems, including drones or similar equipment.
• Strong capability in systematic troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems in a field service or maintenance context.

• Aviation or aerospace industry experience, particularly in environments involving flight systems or unmanned aerial vehicles.
• Hands-on experience with drone systems, including operation, maintenance, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience working directly with operations teams to resolve urgent technical issues in time-sensitive environments.
• Familiarity with engineering project management and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or other Agile software.
• Background as a maintenance technician or field service technician supporting complex technical equipment.
• Experience with assembly work involving mechanical and electrical components.
• Ability to work from technical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to support installation and repair.
• Exposure to aviation or aerospace standards and practices related to reliability, safety, and operational readiness.

This position is based on-site in Modesto, working directly within an active commercial drone operations environment. You will spend significant time in field settings around drone systems, ground support equipment, and operational infrastructure, performing hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and system checks. The role involves working with mechanical and electrical components, using hand tools, and referencing schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams in a fast-paced, reliability-focused setting. Hours and shifts may vary based on operational needs and site activities, and you should be comfortable in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly to address urgent issues and support new site deployments.

This is a Contract position based out of Modesto, CA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
