Registered Nurse Infusion (PT, Day shift)

Description

The Adult Infusion center at Parnassus services the malignant and nonmalignant hematology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy biotherapy immunotherapy blood transfusions hydration and electrolyte therapy injections and blood draws enzymes and iron infusions and antibiotics. The center consists of 30 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The Parnassus Infusion center also supports the Apheresis cell collection needs and photopheresis needs for the adult HBC program. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses Nurse Practitioners Medical Assistants and Practice Coordinators.

The Outpatient Infusion Clinical Nurse II delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non cancer disease process the major treatment modalities symptom management supportive care and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. The Parnassus Infusion Center is open seven (7) days a week and most holidays. On-call shifts may be required in addition to work schedule.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 years recent outpatient infusion experience within the past 5 years
• Two (2) or more years of recent direct patient care as an RN.
• 2 years of recent experience working with Blood transplant and cellular therapy.
• Ability to triage basic oncology symptoms and issues related to oncology treatments.
• Experience administering infusions pain management transfusion therapy hydration etc.
• Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position
• Must be able to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that supports teamwork professionalism high quality patient experience evidence based clinical practice or other relevant topics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

• Experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
• Membership in professional organizations is recommended
• Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification prior to hire

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
• Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification
