Maintenance Technician

A foods manufacturing facility in Kansas City, KS is hiring for an industrial maintenance technician where you will use your mechanical and electrical skills to keep production equipment running safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician who is highly mechanical, eager to learn, and motivated to grow their skills in industrial maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and corrective maintenance on industrial production equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, including motors, drives, and moving components, to minimize downtime.
• Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in processing and packaging operations.
• Conduct electrical troubleshooting on equipment, including motor controls and 3-phase power systems.
• Assist with equipment installations, including mechanical setup, alignment, and electrical connections.
• Work with electrical wiring, conduit, and control systems to support equipment modifications and repairs.
• Support PLC and controls troubleshooting, particularly Allen-Bradley platforms, to resolve automation-related issues.
• Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work orders, track repairs, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Perform repairs and adjustments in refrigerated areas of the facility, following all safety and operational guidelines.
• Collaborate with the small maintenance team and production staff to prioritize maintenance tasks and respond to equipment breakdowns.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and recommend preventive maintenance activities.
• Follow all safety procedures and best practices when working with electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and industrial tools.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance within a manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven experience in mechanical troubleshooting of production equipment.
• Hands-on experience with motor controls and related electrical components in an industrial setting.
• Ability to install, maintain, and repair equipment, including mechanical and electrical aspects.
• Practical experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and understanding of their operation.
• Competence in electrical troubleshooting, including working safely with 3-phase power systems.
• Ability to read and work with electrical wiring and conduit in an industrial environment.
• Familiarity with controls and PLC systems, including basic troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley equipment.
• Comfort working in a refrigerated facility and adapting to varying temperature conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with HVAC systems in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Exposure to ammonia systems and refrigeration equipment used in processing facilities.
• Prior use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience at 480 V, including safe work practices and problem diagnosis.
• PLC troubleshooting skills, with the ability to assist in identifying control-related issues.
• Background in electrical wiring and controls, including installing and modifying control circuits.
• Interest in expanding skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines through on-the-job learning.

Work Environment

The role is based in a 47,000-square-foot meat packaging and processing facility, with some areas refrigerated to support production requirements. You will work closely with a small maintenance team, currently consisting of two technicians, fostering a collaborative and team-oriented culture where everyone's contribution is highly visible. The position follows a daytime schedule, with a Monday through Friday shift from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing consistent hours and a stable routine. You will work around industrial machinery, electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and refrigeration technologies, using standard maintenance tools and CMMS software in a production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
