Medical Lab Technologist - Laboratory Medicine

POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Lab Technologist (MT) performs diagnostic tests in a medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results. They perform clinical laboratory testing of various complexities, while engaging in a no‑harm, high‑quality, consumer‑centric experience and stewardship by working as a member of Health First’s clinical team.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Performs clinical laboratory testing of various complexities in a timely and efficient manner using laboratory equipment, devices, or manual methods. Assigned to benches such as clinical chemistry, toxicology, transfusion services, urinalysis, hemostasis, hematology, microbiology, immunology, point of care, and/or as directed by lab leadership; performs analyses on body fluids such as urine, blood, and other fluids. Complies with all Health First, HF Laboratory policies and procedures, along with all pertinent federal and state accreditation agency requirements. Performs quality control on various laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and validity. Assists the lab supervisor in validating new tests, equipment, or methodology. Performs regular and periodic equipment maintenance on lab analyzers, calibrates, and troubleshoots testing systems and instruments to meet established accuracy standards. Shows commitment to meet departmental goals and continuously improve performance metrics. Demonstrates basic computer skills relevant to the job and competency in using electronic medical record (EMR) applications for patient records and results as established by laboratory procedures. Demonstrates the appropriate skill set as determined by the Annual Competency Assessments. Maintains availability to meet staffing demands and demonstrates effective time management. Communicates effectively within the laboratory, with external clinical departments, other healthcare professionals, clients, and customers. Observes AIDET in customer communication and reports issues and departmental needs to supervisor. May be required to obtain laboratory specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture if needed. Cross‑trains in other laboratory departments or performs other lab‑related tasks as directed by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a relevant field as outlined by CLIA. No required work experience. Medical Technologist licensure in the State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA. Proficiency in required computer applications. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Strong critical‑thinking, prioritization, organization, and communication skills (written and verbal in English).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience. Certification such as MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), MT (AAB), MT/MLS (AMT), or other Specialist Certification by ASCP (SBB, SC, SH, etc.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping. Long periods of computer use at a workstation. Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance. May be exposed to environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or moderate noise. Requires communication with others to exchange information. Requires visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to perform tasks, with workspace that may vary from open to confined. May require travel to various facilities within and beyond the county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle. #J-18808-Ljbffr Health First
