Shop Supervisor

Summary The position establishes, directs and coordinates the management of Mechanics, Fuel Technicians, Parts, Office Staff, yard activities and the Facilities Environmental Management System. The Shop Manager will oversee day-to-day activities and operations of a 24/7 truck maintenance facility. Position Responsibilities Maintain an open line of communication with the lines of business in order to maximize the equipment availability. Monitor vehicle service failure history, identify trends and develop action plans to prevent failures Manage the P&L. i.e. Parts inventory / cycle counting, approval of invoices, staffing and managing overtime. Oversees personnel needs; selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees. Cultivate and maintain productive supplier relationships Manage all vendor repairs Responsible for employee schedules and processing an accurate payroll Deal with multiple drivers and vendors at once Ensure compliance with our Preventive Maintenance Inspection Program Manage our maintenance software program Ensure compliance with our Preventive Maintenance Inspection Program Handle urgent situations in a professional manner. Direct and control vehicle maintenance repairs and shop overhead cost. Maintain fueling facilities at various locations. Parts and National purchasing programs Maintain fueling facilities at various locations Support the business with trailer inventories. Assist and support our Safety departments. Loaded product integrity / Smithfield’s Food safety program. (Dedicated sites only) Oversee a supporting vendor base at Smithfield’s outer facilities. (Dedicated sites only) Maintain 45,000 gallons of fuel and fuel inventories (Dedicated sites only) Oversee the daily repair and maintenance operation of tractor units at our Colton, CA maintenance facility. Promote CR England’s strong Safety Culture and ensure a safe work environment. Ensure efficient and quality service. Provide technical guidance as necessary during repairs. Establish and maintain appropriate systems and metrics necessary for measuring all aspects of operational management and development. Manage training and professional development of onsite personnel. Develop and deliver individual performance reviews. Provide “Coaching for Performance” leadership to all employees.Provide timely communication to employees through shop meetings and written formats. Ensure a timely and accurate repair order and billing process is in place. Be primary point of contact for driver resolution concerning repair issues. Work independently and with little direction. Multi-task and manage multiple projects and initiatives. Understand expense tracking, budgeting and basic accounting principles and using this understanding to drive efficient financial performance. Manage projects from the task level up with the consistent goal of on-time and on-budget performance. Gain clear understanding of the work needed and drive tasks to on-time completion. Communication is essential in this position. The ideal candidate will keep all parties apprised of expected completion times & dates. Each person at CR England is a customer and must be treated as such. Follow-up is critical to keep internal and external customers informed and updated on maintenance status. Written communication is essential to the job and must be handled well. E-mail, memos, and letters should be professional and respectful at all times with a clear and concise message. Cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with site and division managers. The successful candidate will embrace this culture and easily integrate into the flow. Manage vendor issues and ensure that repairs are done on time and within cost constraints. Be comfortable providing direct, honest feedback that holds vendors accountable. Ensure compliance with our Preventive Maintenance Inspection Program Ensure DOT inspection compliance Monitor vehicle service failure history, identify trends, and develop actions to prevent failures Ensure compliance to applicable environmental regulations. Must be able to work with office equipment, utilizing computers for majority of tasks. Job qualifications may include, but not limited to 5+ years’ experience with Heavy Duty Vehicle Maintenance Experienced in vendor relations Experienced in multiple shift shop management Experienced in financial controls and budgeting Prior experience with billing oversight for primary customer and third party carriers is highly preferred Computer experience required Must be very detail oriented and organized with an ability to effectively multi-task Excellent written and verbal communications skills Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and the required drive to see the entire Team succeed This person must be comfortable working a majority of the time on site with our customer rather than in our primary shop location Ability to work with office equipment, utilizing computers for majority of tasks and must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite of programs. Knowledge of TMT and TMW Expert user of vendor applications & synergize Physical Requirements: Capable of hearing, with or without correction, sufficiently to perceive normal speaking levels and receive detailed information through oral communication in order to facilitate meetings and work with internal customers and stakeholders by telephone and in person. Position may involve kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 pounds. Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends, holidays and various shifts (to include evening and night shifts) as necessary. Capable of sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and working with computer equipment. Capable of speaking, writing, and reading English well and possessing a good command of the language so that various types of communications may be conducted in English with people of various levels of education and capabilities Capable of visual acuity, with or without correction, sufficient to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer terminal, and read extensively. Education and Experience 4 year degree in a specified field or business-related field and commensurate workrelated experience. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience running a shop or shift Transportation industry experience strongly preferred. Broad understanding transportation processes and standards. Excellent organizational skills required. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential. The ability to adapt to a changing environment Working Environment and Conditions Must have the ability to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and/or delays. Work environment in and outside the shop may include extreme seasonal temperatures with appropriate measures taken for safety of employees Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances. Must be able to handle incoming requests for assistance via phone and in person while working on other tasks.
