Supervisory Park Ranger (P)

Summary Position located in El Malpais National Monument, in the Visitor and Resource Protection. Responsibilities Serve as Federal Law Enforcement Officer performing duties including detection and investigation of violations of federal criminal laws. Perform short- and long-term management planning including budget formulation and execution and setting division goals and priorities. Supervise and manage law enforcement and resources protection programs and Visitor and Resource Protection employees. Lead strategic planning initiatives, budget development, financial execution, and establishing division-wide goals and priorities. Communicate and work effectively with others. Education Law Enforcement Commission: Must currently possess or previously held (within the past three years) a FLETC issued Land Management Police Training (LMPT), full Type I Law Enforcement Commission or equivalent; or be qualified to receive a Type I Commission upon appointment by 07/06/2026. No substitution of education for experience at the grade level. Requirements U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Subject to pre‑employment physical and drug testing. Must possess Type I or higher Law Enforcement Commission. Must be able to carry a firearm and maintain proficiency. Must be free of any domestic violence convictions. Must meet time‑in‑grade requirements as of the closing date. Physical Demands A variety of physical demands occur in this position. The incumbent may be required, on short notice, to participate in strenuous physical activity, with significant periods of stressful activity. The duties are under the scope and requirements of the park’s Health and Fitness Program, and the incumbent must meet the minimum requirements as specified in DO‑57. Work Environment Work is primarily in an office environment, but field inspections, evaluations, consultations, and emergencies frequently involve exposure to cold, damp, foggy, snow, rainy, and windy weather. Incidents may involve hazardous situations along cliffs and on rocks. The environment can be intense with high stress. Telework is only possible during emergency or natural disaster. Benefits This is a secondary‑administrative law enforcement position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S. C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U. S. C. 8412 (d) (FERS). Applicants may meet qualification requirements but may not be eligible for special retirement coverage. To be eligible for secondary retirement under CSRS, an employee must transfer directly from a primary position. Eligibility for FERS requires direct transfer and completion of three years of primary rigorous service and continuous employment in a secondary position. Other Information A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade. The salary range is not a guarantee of entitlement. Permanent Change of Station is authorized for the incumbent in qualifying positions. This position is subject to significant physical demands and compliance with the park’s health and fitness program. #J-18808-Ljbffr
