Job Description

The Inventory/Production Planner 1 supports a project-based assignment focused on managing inventory for a biologics group, ensuring laboratory consumables are available and properly organized across multiple stockrooms. This role centers on auditing inventory, maintaining accurate records, and making sure scientists have the materials they need in the correct locations. The initial engagement is expected to last approximately 3–4 months, with potential for conversion in the future.

Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, and check incoming materials, samples, and supplies to verify appropriate labeling and documentation.
• Store materials in designated areas by following established procedures, guidelines, and segregation requirements.
• Retrieve and prepare materials for production and laboratory use as requested by internal stakeholders.
• Operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks and hand trucks, safely and efficiently.
• Organize and maintain materials within each stockroom to support laboratory operations and ensure easy access.
• Audit stockrooms that contain significant volumes of product, verifying quantities, locations, and condition of materials.
• Communicate timelines for deliveries, follow up on product orders, and escalate issues when delays or problems arise.
• Accurately document the chain of custody for all materials, including date, time, and personnel involved.
• Ensure all materials are stored in appropriate designated areas with proper labeling and segregation to meet procedural and regulatory requirements.
• Create and maintain accurate inventory records, including performing regular cycle counts and reconciliations.
• Use inventory management systems to track stock levels, movements, and usage of laboratory consumables.
• Participate in training sessions to stay current on procedures, regulations, and inventory management practices.
• Work overtime or temporarily adjust shift schedules when operational needs require additional coverage.
• Collaborate with onsite team members to support scientists and ensure they have the supplies needed to perform their work.
• Perform any additional inventory, stockroom, or production support responsibilities as needed to ensure smooth operations.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in a warehouse or laboratory setting preferred.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining and controlling inventory, including auditing stock and performing cycle counts.
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to effectively use inventory management systems (IMS) to track and manage stock.
• Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling materials and documentation.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with scientists and team members.
• Willingness to learn and follow strict procedures and regulations related to laboratory and inventory operations.
• Good organizational skills for managing multiple stockrooms and inventory locations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Comfort working in environments that require adherence to detailed documentation and chain-of-custody standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a laboratory setting is a plus and helps in understanding the needs of scientific teams.
• Experience in internal auditing or inventory auditing is beneficial.
• Experience with inventory management and inventory control processes in a lab or warehouse environment.
• Familiarity with handling laboratory consumables and materials used in biologics or similar scientific operations.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and hand trucks.
• Strong follow-up skills to track orders, deliveries, and inventory discrepancies.
• Adaptability to project-based work and changing priorities over the course of a 3–4 month assignment.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a biologics facility and requires working Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The position supports laboratory operations by managing inventory across at least two stockrooms that house a high volume of consumables and materials. You will work closely with an onsite team, while leadership may be offsite, and you will interact regularly with scientists and other staff who rely on timely, accurate delivery of supplies. The environment combines stockroom and laboratory support areas, where adherence to procedures, documentation standards, and safety practices is essential. Occasional overtime or temporary shift adjustments may be needed to meet operational demands. Interviews typically include an initial virtual discussion of 30–45 minutes followed by an onsite meet-and-greet.

This is a Contract position based out of New Brunswick, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
