Systems Quality Assurance Specialist

The Systems Testing/QA Specialist - Intermediate is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing comprehensive testing efforts for large, complex business-critical systems. This role involves developing test strategies, plans, scripts, and cases to ensure software quality across various environments, including GUI and non-GUI. The specialist collaborates closely with development teams and project stakeholders to validate system functionality, performance, accessibility, and data integrity, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities:

• Advise on testing strategies, test plans, tool selection, and resource identification.
• Plan and organize testing efforts for GUI and non-GUI systems, including integration, functional, regression, stress, and user acceptance testing.
• Develop and execute test plans, scripts, and cases; validate system behavior under various conditions.
• Identify, document, and track software defects using tools such as ALM, JIRA, Bugzilla, and Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate with developers to reproduce and resolve issues.
• Create and maintain automated test scripts and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Micro Focus UFT, Selenium, TestComplete, or Postman.
• Conduct performance, load, and stress testing to assess system scalability and reliability.
• Ensure accessibility compliance aligned with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related standards.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Maintain detailed documentation of test results, coverage, and quality metrics.
• Provide input for user manuals and release notes.
• Ensure testing processes meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support data analysis, cleansing, conversion, reconciliation, and migration testing.
• Perform basic security testing and collaborate with security specialists for advanced penetration testing.

• Proven experience leading and executing manual testing and data reconciliation for large, complex business systems.
• Strong knowledge of test planning, test case development, and test strategy formulation for complex systems.
• Experience with accessibility testing aligned with AODA (WCAG 2.0 AA) standards.
• Proficiency with testing tools and defect tracking systems such as JIRA, Bugzilla, ALM, Azure DevOps, and Micro Focus Product Suite.
• Experience with automated testing tools including Selenium, Micro Focus UFT, TestComplete, and Postman.
• Familiarity with performance testing tools like JMeter or LoadRunner.
• Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) and testing life cycle methodologies.
• Experience with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with data validation, backend testing, and query writing for test data verification.
• Knowledge of web-based 3-tier software platforms and workflow/portfolio management solutions.
• Experience testing custom implementations and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications, including IBM J-Rules Engine.

• Experience in at least one programming language.
• Knowledge of object-oriented testing methods.
• Experience with information retrieval packages and Information Management principles.
• Familiarity with accessibility testing tools such as WAVES, JAWS, NVDA, and Compliance Sheriff.
• Experience developing and managing automated test scripts and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Public sector experience or working with government ministries/agencies.
• Experience in security testing and collaboration with security specialists for penetration testing.

• Must adhere to strict accessibility standards (AODA, WCAG 2.0 AA).
• Testing involves large, complex systems with high rates of change in data, rules, and images.
• Coordination with multiple teams across business and technology areas is required.
• Compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements is mandatory.
• Onsite presence required for at least 5 days.
