Social Worker III - Adult Services and Guardianship

Minimum Qualifications Completion of the tenth grade; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment. Evening and weekend work hours may be required. Twenty hours per week. Position Summary This is routine, entry‑level manual and clerical work in the Alachua County Library District. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for removing and shelving library materials and performing related tasks in accordance with well defined procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of a Library Assistant or professional Librarian and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained. Examples of Duties Removes requested materials from shelves; shelves books; maintains and monitors shelf order. Transports materials throughout the Library on handcarts. Labels, processes, and mends library materials. Assists with mail runs and other clerical errands. Counts number of materials placed on shelves to record shelving activity. Checks books in and out; searches shelves for special requests; answers routine directional questions from library patrons. Empties book drop boxes onto hand carts; pushes carts to reshelving area. Meters mail. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of alphabetical and numerical filing systems. Some knowledge of the purpose and functions of public libraries. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to learn and follow routine library procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and library patrons. Ability to push fully loaded handcarts; ability to load and unload carts. Ability to lift, reach, and bend to shelve books. Understand how and why Library policies and procedures were developed. Ensure patron compliance of all policies and procedures through effective communication and enforcement.
