Drivers Union is one of the first organizations in the nation to provide a legislative and legal framework for gig workers to have a true and legitimate voice in their work lives, regardless of their employment status. Drivers have fought long and hard to establish these rights; we are looking for staff who are committed to the fight and to advancing social and economic justice. 

Drivers Union is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to represent gig workers in arbitration and legal proceedings. This position will require: 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Advocate on behalf of workers in deactivation and arbitration proceedings.
• Maintain own case load including conducting investigations, legal research and strategy, drafting legal memos, case presentation and enforcement proceedings. 
• Along with all employees, help maintain a positive, respectful, welcoming, professional and culturally competent work environment. 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Admitted to, or willing to apply for admission to, the Washington State Bar. Experience with labor or employment law, public defense, and/or trial experience is a plus.
• Must have ability to investigate and litigate cases independently and collaboratively; ability to timely handle multiple cases at once and manage stressful situations.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing and to negotiate with third parties on behalf of drivers. 
• Experience representing or working with immigrants, low-wage workers and vulnerable populations. 

Particular consideration will be given to candidates with fluency in language(s) other than English, and community leadership in the region’s diverse immigrant and refugee communities. Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 per year
