Refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed; accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment.Strong interpersonal skills.Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).Job DutiesProvides excellent customer service to patients.Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas.Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds.Maintains required certification and knowledge in order to perform functions optimally and within regulation requirements.Enters pharmacy orders.Other related duties as required. There is potential to encounter hazardous medications and hazardous waste.Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
