Engineering Manager

Salary: $150,000 - 160,000 per year Requirements: 3+ years of people management experience, or equivalent scope as a tech lead with informal management responsibility moving into a formal engineering manager role. 5+ years of professional software development experience, with current hands-on coding ability in the teams core stack. Proven ability to ship against committed timelines without overextending the team. Experience delivering candid feedback, addressing underperformance, and making hiring and termination decisions. Comfort making decisions with incomplete information. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical risk to VP-level or non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated judgment in code review and system design. Working knowledge of secure development practices and familiarity with compliance contexts such as SOC 2, ISO27001, CCPA, GDPR, and CE+. AI-assisted development as a routine part of your workflow, including setting team norms for adoption, verification, and elevated review. United States work authorization. Preferred: experience leading a team through a platform migration, merger, or major technology transition. Preferred: familiarity with at least one of our core stacks well enough to evaluate technical proposals. Preferred: experience defining or evolving engineering metrics such as DORA, SPACE, or similar. Preferred: experience managing a geographically distributed mix of full-time and contractor engineers. Responsibilities: Contribute production code regularly as a player-coach, with a focus on bug fixes, technical investigations, spikes, and unblocking teammates. Own delivery for the team by turning roadmap priorities into a sequenced, realistic plan and being accountable for what ships and when. Protect the teams focus time by absorbing or redirecting organizational noise, interruptions, and cross-team distractions. Lead the people management side of the role, including hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, performance management, and career development conversations. Partner with Staff and Lead Engineers on technical direction and ensure the team follows through on sound design decisions. Establish and uphold engineering practices such as code review standards, testing expectations, and responsible use of AI-assisted development. Own the teams contribution to engineering metrics such as DORA, monitor the trends, and act on what they reveal. Serve as the first escalation point for delivery risks, interpersonal issues, and technical disagreements that cannot be resolved within the team. Represent the teams capacity and constraints honestly during planning and push back on unrealistic demands. Participate in the engineering leadership on-call escalation path for incidents requiring management-level decisions. Contribute to hiring plans, organizational design, and technical debt prioritization discussions with the VP and peer engineering managers.
