Description: Unit operates with a 50-mile radius rule for candidates. All submissions must include a copy of the candidate's unexpired driver's license. All hits on the professional license must be disclosed prior to submission. The unit consists of 29 beds, all private. The available ratios are 1 nurse to 6-7 patients. A clinical manager is present Monday through Saturday, acting as both charge nurse and nurse manager. Resource nurses take patient assignments based on unit census. During the night shift, there are no certified nursing assistants available. Weekend work is required every other weekend, specifically Saturday and Sunday. Staff usually group Friday with their weekend shifts. Holiday shifts are part of the permanent staff schedule rotation. Uniform color is navy blue, including jackets if worn. Patients may be on remote telemetry, monitored by technicians on a different floor. Nurses are not required to read telemetry strips. Common intravenous drips include Heparin and possibly medications for comfort measures. Ventilators and high-flow oxygen are managed per respiratory therapy guidelines. Shifts for registered nurses are 12 hours, either 7 AM to 7:30 PM or 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Certified nursing assistants work 8-hour shifts, either 6 AM to 2:30 PM or 2 PM to 10:30 PM. Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are allowed as long as unit needs are met. Floating duties only require moving to other medical surgical units. Nurses only require a single shift of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor. Common diagnoses in the unit include post-surgical patients, orthopedic cases, pneumonia, and end-of-life care. The unit has low volume for inpatient chemotherapy. Currently, patients requiring COVID care are housed in designated areas within the unit. Nurses may be assigned to both clean and dirty patients simultaneously. Staff must be comfortable working in this environment. Cancellations for shifts may occur per assignment guidelines. The charting system utilized is Cerner. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for this position.
