Registered Nurse - Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)

Shift Information

12-hour rotating night shifts, including potential coverage for holidays and weekends. Guaranteed 36 hours a week with opportunities for labor call or overtime.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a compassionate and licensed professional responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care through the complete nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Duties include:

• Conducting thorough patient assessments and developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans.
• Delivering direct patient care across the lifespan while promoting optimal health outcomes.
• Providing clear, culturally sensitive education to patients and families to support health literacy and successful transitions of care.
• Directing and supervising licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other ancillary personnel.
• Maintaining accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Collaborating effectively with physicians, therapists, and the broader care team.
• Participating in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
• Floating to other departments as needed, with appropriate orientation and training.
• Performing additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient needs.

Qualifications

• Current New Mexico RN license or active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association (or equivalent).
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Education and clinical experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the assigned department.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to deliver compassionate, culturally competent care to patients of all ages.
• Strong team player with flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.

Department-Specific Qualifications

• Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certifications required.
• OPS Emergency Workshop and STABLE certification required within 12 months.
• SAFER NM Technician certification preferred.
• Skilled in all aspects of perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and sterile field maintenance.

Physical, Environmental & Psychological Considerations

This role involves frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials. Work occurs primarily in a temperature-controlled hospital setting with occasional exposure to varied sounds, odors, and emotionally challenging situations. The candidate must be physically able to lift, position, and transfer patients using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment. They must work effectively under stress, respond calmly to emergencies, and maintain strong problem-solving and coping skills.

Team-oriented, adaptable, and resilient candidates are preferred for dynamic clinical situations.
