This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of 40 hours. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel and advice to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG), its departments, divisions, boards, officials, and employees, and to represent the organization in litigation, negotiations and other matters where legal counsel is required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Juris Doctor Two years of related experience ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides representation and counsel to specified departments or divisions Drafts legal documents, resolutions, motions, ordinances, contracts, pleadings, briefs and opinions; negotiates revisions Researches and analyzes complex legal issues and prepares written analysis and evaluations Represents and prepares clients for mediations, informal settlement negotiations and court Represents the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in state and federal courts Provides legal counsel to boards and commissions Supervises paralegals in preparation of pleadings and review of work SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION Must be a member of the Kentucky Bar Association SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
