Job Summary:

The Community College of Denver is seeking an enthusiastic small animal veterinarian to help educate the next generation of veterinary technicians. This part-time position combines clinical practice with teaching in our on-campus teaching clinic where students provide wellness care under the direct supervision of the clinical instructor. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys mentoring, client communication, and helping students develop confidence in a supportive learning environment.

The on-campus teaching clinic provides affordable wellness services to the community, including:

• Physical examinations
• Vaccinations
• Diagnostic laboratory testing
• Preventive care
• Client education

Students participate in every aspect of the appointment while being supervised by the veterinarian, including but not limited to: appointment scheduling, history taking, physical examinations, sample collection, client communication, and medical record documentation.

1. Schedule

• Mondays and Wednesdays
• Approximately 15 hours/week
• Spring and Fall semesters
• Potential summer teaching opportunities

This position will be based in CCD's new state-of-the-art veterinary technology teaching facility, featuring exam rooms, treatment and surgery areas, diagnostic laboratory space, and an on-campus teaching clinic designed specifically for veterinary technology education.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Didactic:
Teaching Responsibilities
• Create course syllabus
• Assess student performance
• Provide coaching and feedback
• Grade assignments
• Evaluate clinical competencies
• Foster a positive learning environment

Labs:
Clinical Responsibilities
• Supervise veterinary technology students during patient appointments in the on-campus teaching clinic.
• Guide students in obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, collecting diagnostic samples, and communicating with clients.
• Demonstrate and reinforce appropriate clinical techniques, patient handling, and professional standards.
• Provide real-time coaching and feedback to promote student learning and clinical confidence.
• Collaborate with the program's full time veterinarian to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with college policies and Colorado veterinary regulations.
• Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and supporting daily clinic operations.

Student Mentorship: Responsible for serving as a role model for Vet tech students by participating and being an active member of professional organizations. Mentor students as they develop clinical skills, professional communication, and confidence in patient care.. Use retention strategies in and out of the classroom to maximize student success. Respond effectively to consistent patterns of student complaints.

College: Responsible for submitting all paperwork, grades and other college related documents on time to the appropriate area of the college.

Competencies/KSAs:

Must be able to demonstrate the correct usage of common veterinary technology instruments, lab, and surgery equipment.

Must be organized, flexible and willing to accept new challenges. Must be able to deliver clinical education providing cultural, racial, and ethnic sensitivity.

Must be able to demonstrate computer literacy in the following areas: email, learning management systems and patient management software.

Minimum Qualifications:

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
• Colorado veterinary license (or eligibility for licensure)
• Minimum of two years of companion animal clinical experience

Licensure/Certification:
Must have a DVM or equivalent degree with licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Colorado.

Equipment Used:
Computers, Idexx diagnostic equipment, patient management software, microscope

Other Considerations: This is a part-time position currently scheduled for 2 days a week, approximately 15 hours per week, 12 weeks each spring and fall semester.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A passion for mentoring future veterinary technicians and fostering student success is strongly desired.
• Experience in teaching
• Experience with wellness medicine
• Strong communication and client education skills
