DOC Nurse Supervisor - Denver

Position Overview This posting is for a Nurse III Supervisor in Denver, CO. The position is open to Colorado state residents only. Job Responsibilities Supervises, guides, and directs professional skilled nursing care for incarcerated offenders in outpatient clinic, infirmary, or specialized cell house settings. Manages a unit, shift, or specialized clinical treatment unit, including scheduling, payroll, and performance management. Documents patient care accurately and promptly, using handwritten and electronic records. Provides patient education, including self‑care techniques, medication side effects, and complication prevention. Conducts routine and emergency assessments, triage, and sick line evaluations using nursing protocols. Maintains safety and security of the clinical environment, performing contraband control and item accounting. Arranges for on‑call coverage and approves overtime as needed. Participates in hiring, promotion, and disciplinary processes. Minimum Qualifications Valid, current license as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or a state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Three (3) years of full‑time experience providing patient care as a Registered Nurse (partial‑time experience prorated). Bachelor's degree in nursing may substitute for one year of experience; master’s or doctoral degree may substitute for two years. Official transcripts required. Physically capable of performing defensive tactics and medical duties, including lift, kick, stabilize, and strike techniques. Minimum age of 21 years and possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license. High school diploma or GED. No felony convictions; must meet all state and federal legal requirements regarding criminal history. Valid U.S. work authorization; no H‑1B sponsorship available. Successful completion of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training modules, including defensive tactics and written/practical exams. Required Competencies Effective staff supervision and leadership. High‑quality patient care for offender patients. Maintain required licensure and credentials. Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking abilities. Ability to produce clear, accessible documentation following plain language guidelines. Composure and resilience in stressful, potentially violent situations. Strong observational skills and emotional stability during shifts. Tolerance for stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interactions. Preferred Qualifications One year or more of nursing supervisory experience. Experience as a Registered Nurse in a correctional environment.
