Position Overview

A highly technical, ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited materials and equipment performance testing laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering and testing team.

This position will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing mechanical and environmental testing programs for customers across industries including oil and gas, energy, aerospace, automotive, and other advanced technology sectors .

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on testing experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both internal teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, conduct, and analyze mechanical and environmental tests in accordance with applicable ASTM/ISO standards and customer specifications.

• Document test procedures, results, data, and conclusions and prepare detailed technical reports.

• Work directly with customers to understand testing requirements and develop test proposals, scopes of work, and project cost estimates.

• Follow established quality management procedures and work instructions in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.

• Program, operate, and monitor laboratory testing equipment and computer-based analysis systems.

• Perform pressure, mechanical, thermal, environmental exposure, and other specialized testing.

• Design and/or review mechanical systems, fixtures, machined components, and assemblies to meet customer and project requirements.

• Support testing of equipment exposed to high-pressure, high-temperature, and chemically aggressive environments.

• Analyze test data, identify failure mechanisms, troubleshoot problems, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.

• Discuss test results and technical analyses with internal engineering teams and customers.

• Prepare final technical reports presenting test methods, data, analysis, and conclusions.

• Participate in peer review and revise reports as needed before delivery to customers.

• Monitor laboratory equipment, troubleshoot issues, coordinate repairs, order supplies, and assist with preventive maintenance.

• Maintain an organized and safe laboratory environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.

• Work safely around high-pressure systems, chemicals, ovens, and specialized laboratory equipment using appropriate PPE.

• Occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related field required.

• At least 2 years of experience in oil and gas or a related engineering field involving mechanical testing, equipment qualification, reliability engineering, or similar work preferred.

• Working knowledge of laboratory testing methods and equipment, such as:

  • Mechanical load frames

  • Pressure vessels

  • Environmental chambers

  • Data acquisition systems

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint .

• Understanding of SDS/MSDS requirements and proper safety procedures for handling, storing, mixing, using, and disposing of chemicals.

• Experience working in environments involving mechanical systems and chemical exposure.

• Experience with quality control analysis, testing, inspections, and identifying product or process nonconformances.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately within a formal quality and accreditation environment.

• Ability to apply test data and engineering analysis to real-world equipment or system design is a plus.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

• Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.

Work Environment

• Full-time, on-site position based in Fort Worth, TX .

• Work is performed primarily in an environmentally controlled office and laboratory environment.

• PPE is provided for work involving high pressure, chemicals, ovens, and specialized equipment.

• The position requires frequent standing, walking, talking, and listening, with occasional sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

• Candidates must be comfortable working around high-pressure equipment, chemicals, elevated temperatures, and other laboratory hazards while following established safety procedures.
