Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (9-hour shifts)

We are seeking a full-time Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) to support the Pediatric Clinic at Air Force Base Medical Group – Langley Hospital, Eustis, VA.

What You'll Do:

Core Duties:

• Provide practical nursing care and nursing administrative support to outpatient pediatric patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols
• Monitor and document age-appropriate physiological measurements and patient conditions
• Orient new patients and families to the clinic and available services
• Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed
• Provide individualized patient and family education on preventative healthcare, health maintenance, and appropriate care
• Prepare and position patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures
• Perform appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and clinical interventions within the LPN/LVN scope of practice
• Document treatments, procedures performed, observations, and patient responses accurately
• Identify and document patient problems and promptly notify the appropriate provider or nursing team of significant observations
• Prepare and administer medications in accordance with scope of practice, physician orders, established policies, and required training
• Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations and perform basic life support when required
• Perform appropriate portions of physical examinations, including age-specific physical measurements
• Follow infection control procedures, including proper use of PPE, waste disposal, and aseptic techniques
• Perform central sterile supply duties as assigned
• Ensure medical equipment is properly assembled, operated, cleaned, maintained, and stored
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and cleaning as directed
• Review medical records and apply appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine patient care needs
• Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy patient medical records
• Prepare and submit required administrative documentation
• Participate in training and continuing education programs covering new procedures, techniques, and equipment
• Promote a safe work environment and maintain safe work practices for employees, patients, and families
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers, patients, families, providers, and other healthcare team members
• Participate in committees, meetings, peer review activities, customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities as directed by clinic leadership
• Support telehealth services and provide age-appropriate care in accordance with applicable standards
• Utilize healthcare information systems, including CHCS, AHLTA, and ADS , as required
• Apply the nursing process in the assessment and care of patients
• Maintain clinical competency through ongoing training, in-service education, and continuing education
• Follow patient safety, infection control, regulatory, and process-improvement requirements

Department-Specific Duties:

• Provide hands-on care to pediatric patients with varying medical needs and conditions
• Prioritize and sequence patient care procedures and treatments based on individual patient needs
• Observe, identify, and respond to patients' needs for medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications through approved routes, including oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous administration, as permitted within scope and clinic protocols
• Perform treatments according to established policies and procedures
• Recognize urgent and emergent patient situations, promptly seek assistance from the RN and/or physician, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions
• Support complex diagnostic tests and specialized procedures by preparing patients, assisting healthcare providers, handling specialized instruments and equipment, and monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures
• Orient peers and ancillary personnel to applicable unit policies, procedures, skills, and standards
• Promote a healthy work environment that supports quality patient care, patient and family education, and employee well-being

This position provides opportunities to develop and apply a broad range of pediatric nursing skills, including medication administration, patient assessment, diagnostic support, emergency response, patient education, electronic health record management, and direct clinical support.

What You'll Need — Mandatory Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of practical or vocational nursing experience after graduation
• For the LPN Pediatrics position, candidates must have practiced as an LPN providing hands-on patient care in an outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months
• Experience providing patient care and treatment, operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, administering oral and parenteral medications, performing paraprofessional portions of physical examinations, and assisting with medical treatment in accordance with established procedures and protocols

Education:

• Completion of all education and training requirements for Practical Nursing
• Graduate of an accredited national, state, or military-equivalent Practical Nursing program
• Successful completion of the NCLEX-PN/LPN

Licensure:

• Active, unrestricted LPN/LVN license from any U.S. state

Life Support Certification:

• Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification

Security:

• Must be able to successfully pass a government background check/security clearance
