Job Description:

The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes.
The maintenance technician maintains, tests, and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components and applies knowledge of electrical/ electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation.
The maintenance technician provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing.
Depending upon the technician's field of expertise and the specific qualification tests taken, the maintenance technician performs some or all of the following essential functions.

Responsibilities:

Receives instructions, wiring diagrams, blueprints, specifications, software necessary to perform scheduled, emergency, routine repairs. Calibrations, and preventive maintenance.
Interprets drawings, sketches, software, plans and determines work procedures, tools, equipment needed, to install analyze and perform a logical sequence of troubleshooting and repairing problems
Makes sketches of parts and layouts designs and constructs adaptations or conversion of component parts.
Is able to efficiently interpret PLC software and make minor modifications and "fixes' involved with troubleshooting.
Utilizes knowledgeable in all types and sizes of AC and DC motors, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic controls, control panels, starters, switches, lighting equipment, electronic scales, power distribution, communication systems, various mill and production equipment, electronic computing, PLC, and control systems, Inverters and motor drives, measuring, recording, and controls devices, conduit and fittings, wire and cable, hardware installation, soldering and replacement parts.
Determines necessary tools and materials needed to perform all aspects of work assignments.
Performs blocking and rigging.
Performs any necessary mechanical repairs needed on process equipment to complete work assignment.
Is knowledgeable and considers all safety precautions in the course of troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment.
Performs PM tasks and logs all job tasks, work assignments, and corrective actions taken on a daily basis.
Operates drill press, hydraulic press, milling machine, lathe, bench grinder, pipe threading machine, pipe bender, man lift, forklift, overhead crane, etc.
Uses electronic and electrical test equipment, (megaohm meter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, ammeter, laptop, etc.) as necessary.
Performs work on hot circuits as required.
Maintains and carries all hand tool on the electrical and/or mechanic required tools list
Inspects for misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, repairs, replaces, adjusts, installs, and maintains gear reducers, chain and belt drives, couplings, braking devices, bearings, pumps and linkages, blowers, compressors. Balances Impellers reweaves crane blocks and drums.
Inspects hydraulic, pneumatic, and Auxiliary equipment for faults, misalignment of pumps, improper venting of valves due to bad lines, brakes, overheated pumps, incorrect pressure, etc., and advises operation personnel of necessary precautions to prevent excessive damage.
Answers trouble calls and recognizes and locates faulty equipment. Dismantles, cleans, adjusts, tests, and repairs all plant equipment. Makes preventive maintenance procedures to prevent future occurrences.
Analyzes blueprints, drawings, and control diagrams, to locate and install controls and equipment to determine materials or replacement needs and to select a logical approach to troubleshooting and repairing equipment problems.
Understands theory of lubrication and the use of various types of greases, oil, and lubricants. Lubricates plant equipment.
Tests, inspects, dismantles, and replaces unit assemblies or parts to all mobile equipment.
Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces, or installs drains, high- or low-pressure piping, fittings, and fixtures, as required for maintenance and construction of pipelines for air, water, oil, any gas, waste, etc.
Uses precision measuring equipment to perform close tolerance adjustments.
Assists all other personnel when needed.
Keeps work area in clean and orderly condition.
Works effectively without supervision.
Responsible for personal safety.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, sit, stand, and walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands to grasp or feel; and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or balance.
The employee may lift items up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and vibration on the production floor.
The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions, including high and low temperatures. The employee may have exposure to chemicals, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and the potential of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment can be loud and subject to the company's hearing conservation program requirements.
This position works in an environment in which safety demands constant attention; and requires safety equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, earplugs, and steel toe shoes.

Preferred:

Prior experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.
A test score of 65% or higher on the written Mechanical or Industrial Electrician test to qualify for entry-level position or a test score of 90% or higher on the Mechanical or Industrial Electrician written test to qualify for promotion to anniversary hourly pay rate.
Successful completion of the practical skills assessment.
