Overview Role: Maintenance Technician at GlobalFoundries Malta site, Fab 8, a 300mm leading edge semiconductor manufacturing facility. Responsibilities Monitor equipment performance, schedule, and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on assigned tool sets. Use mechanical, electronic, and PC/software skills to troubleshoot and resolve equipment-related issues. Communicate updates on equipment status and area to the Lead Technician and/or Engineer. Follow detailed instructions and procedures to complete tasks in a safe and responsible manner in line with all FAB8 EHS&S policies. Work independently and collaboratively with teams in a fast‑paced environment. Support and engage in training activities. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment according to operating procedures. Monitor, control, and test semiconductor equipment for manufacturing readiness. Recover equipment from process interruptions, complete event documentation, and effectively communicate end‑of‑shift pass‑downs. Use time‑management skills to prioritize and plan daily work and scheduled activities. Physical Capacity Demands Work in a standing position for more than 85% of a 12‑hour shift (excluding breaks). Walk on uneven surfaces for more than 85% of a 12‑hour shift. Lift, pull, and/or carry at least 50 pounds periodically; larger equipment requires a two‑person lift. Manually manipulate hand tools and small hardware for more than 85% of a 12‑hour shift. Perform activities that include climbing vertical ladders, bending at waist, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching up/over, and crawling for more than 85% of a 12‑hour shift. Utilize computer (typing, visual screen time) for more than 85% of a 12‑hour shift. Work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol/requirements, wearing required clean‑room clothing for at least 10 hours a day. Wear upgraded PPE in accordance with GF safety procedures, including safety shoes, safety glasses, chemical splash apron & gloves, and full‑face shield when required. Maintain compliance with OSHA & NIOSH CFR 29 1910.134 (clean shaven) and don an N95 dust mask or other air‑filtering device for extended periods. Preferred Functions Review Statistical Process Control charts and react to out‑of‑control conditions, including defect troubleshooting. Review, enhance, and develop operating procedures. Participate in continuous improvement projects and skill development. Read and comprehend schematics, blueprints, and electrical diagrams. Use basic hand tools and apply quality workmanship principles. Employ structured problem‑solving techniques. Understand the principles of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems. Qualifications Required Qualifications High‑school degree or equivalent. Electrical or mechanical background; 2‑year technical degree or 2 years of relevant military experience or 4 years of relevant experience (e.g., automotive repair, HVAC, cable installation, computer routing, telecommunications, electrical work). Basic reading, writing, and computer navigation skills (Windows, MicrosoftOffice, Outlook). Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing required clean‑room clothing. Flexible and willing to work any shift (3–4 days alternating weeks during day or night shift). Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in engineering technology, military equivalent, trade equivalent, or equivalent experience. Four or more years of direct experience working in semiconductor manufacturing. Project‑management skills and ability to innovate and execute solutions. Strong written and verbal communication, planning, and organizational skills. Travel Requirements Minimal travel. Language English (written & verbal) proficiency required.
