We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary commissary kitchen and café.
What You'll Do
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen, café, employee areas, restrooms, and other assigned spaces.
- Perform routine and deep cleaning, including floors, kitchen equipment, appliances, grease traps, and ventilation areas.
- Empty trash, recycling, and food waste and maintain designated disposal areas.
- Keep storage areas, loading docks, hallways, and entrances clean and organized.
- Restock cleaning and sanitation supplies as needed.
- Safely use cleaning equipment, chemicals, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, and safety hazards to management.
- Follow company safety and sanitation procedures and applicable NYC Department of Health standards.
- Support additional cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance projects as needed.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as needed to support the team and business.
What We're Looking For
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience as a kitchen porter, sanitation, janitorial, custodial, dishwasher, or in commercial cleaning preferred.
- Experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, grocery store, or food-production environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and safe chemical-handling practices preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and work in hot, cold, wet, humid, and noisy environments.
