Summary

Under general supervision, this role involves repairing and maintaining physical plant infrastructure, including buildings, furnishings, plumbing, electrical fixtures, equipment, and machinery. Tasks are performed following diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications. The technician will replace defective components, adjust, lubricate, and clean equipment to ensure optimal operation.

Major Responsibilities

• Plan and execute assigned maintenance tasks, securing necessary tools, materials, and estimating required time and manpower.
• Perform standard shop calculations using arithmetic, manuals, charts, and other data sources.
• Interpret written specifications, maintenance requests, instructions, and technical drawings such as blueprints and schematics.
• Conduct preventive maintenance according to established schedules, recommending improvements when necessary.
• Service and maintain various equipment including autoclaves, processors, dishwashers, appliances, lighting fixtures, thermostats, transport equipment, kitchen and laboratory devices, lifts, beds, and office equipment.
• Utilize hardware and consumables such as fittings, gaskets, fasteners, electrical components, adhesives, lubricants, and sealants.
• Operate hand, power, and specialized tools and test equipment related to maintenance and repair tasks.
• Adhere to safety standards and wear required protective equipment.
• Proactively identify and address issues in the physical plant without direct supervision.
• Complete preventive maintenance work orders accurately and on time.
• Participate in staff training and in-service sessions related to physical plant, building, and life safety systems.
• Engage in performance improvement and information management activities including educational opportunities and training forums.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and operational work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or vocational school preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of related experience in an institutional environment.

Requirements

Valid driver's license; ability to interface effectively with employees, visitors, vendors, and contractors; physical ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift at least 50 pounds, and work in environments with temperature extremes and high noise levels; exposure to cutting tools, electrical equipment, adhesives, and construction debris.
