Position Overview
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is seeking a senior-level QA Associate/Analyst 3 to support enterprise web-based application testing initiatives across multiple business and IT teams. This role is heavily focused on manual testing, integration testing, data validation, data conversion testing, defect management, and ensuring software quality prior to production deployment.


The consultant will work closely with developers, QA Leads, Business Analysts, and DFPS program stakeholders to validate business requirements, identify software defects, and ensure applications meet usability, functionality, integration, accessibility, and data integrity standards.


This environment supports mission-critical state government applications, requiring strong attention to detail, process discipline, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in structured SDLC environments.


The ideal candidate will have strong experience testing large enterprise web applications involving:

• UI testing
• backend/database validation
• batch processing
• API/web service testing
• data conversion validation
• defect lifecycle management
• accessibility compliance testing

This is NOT an automation-heavy role. The environment is primarily manual QA with some preferred exposure to automation and accessibility testing tools.


Key Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, maintain, and enhance detailed manual test cases and test scenarios
• Perform integration, system, regression, data conversion, batch, UI, and web service testing
• Validate business workflows against documented functional requirements
• Review business requirements and technical specifications to ensure test coverage completeness
• Work closely with Business Analysts and development teams to clarify functionality and expected outcomes
• Identify, document, track, and retest software defects using Client ALM and/or JIRA
• Support end-to-end testing efforts within complex enterprise software environments
• Validate backend data using SQL and PL/SQL queries
• Perform testing across web-based applications, databases, interfaces, and service integrations
• Assist QA Leads with testing assignments, deadlines, status updates, and issue escalations
• Create and maintain testing documentation and defect reports
• Participate in release validation and production support testing activities
• Support data conversion validation and migration testing efforts
• Conduct browser compatibility testing and accessibility validation when needed
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across DFPS business units
• Participate in after-hours testing efforts during deployments/releases if required

Required Skills & Experience

Core QA Experience

• 8+ years of enterprise-level QA/testing experience
• 8+ years testing web-based applications including:
  • UI/frontend testing
  • backend/database validation
  • batch process testing
  • web service/API testing
• 8+ years creating test scenarios, test plans, and detailed manual test cases
• Strong experience performing manual testing in complex enterprise environments

QA Tools

• 5+ years experience with Client ALM and/or JIRA
• Experience creating, tracking, maintaining, and retesting defects
• Experience managing complete defect lifecycle processes

Database Testing

• 5+ years experience writing SQL and PL/SQL queries
• Experience validating backend data and database integrity
• Experience creating and validating test datasets

Integration & Conversion Testing

• Experience testing system integrations and interfaces
• Experience testing data conversion and migration efforts
• Experience validating batch jobs and backend processing

Communication & Collaboration

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working directly with:
