The Security Sensitive Investigations Specialist role supports the Police Department by conducting security-sensitive investigations and recruitment-related background review activities that help maintain a safe and secure environment. The Security Sensitive Investigations Specialist performs detailed investigative work, evaluates security risks, and supports hiring processes that align with institutional standards. The Security Sensitive Investigations Specialist serves as a critical resource in reviewing background information, coordinating investigative activities, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have education, experience, and experience support conducting security-sensitive investigations, evaluating background information, analyzing records from law enforcement and investigative databases, maintaining confidential files, supporting recruitment activities, and coordinating pre-employment screening processes. Security-Sensitive Investigations
• Conduct security-sensitive background investigations on prospective employees, contractors, volunteers, faculty, tour groups, and others.
• Utilize open-source information and applicable security and law enforcement databases to conduct investigations.
• Review investigative findings to assess potential security risks to the University.
• Communicate security-risk determinations to appropriate institutional representatives.
• Conduct administrative and criminal-related investigations when warranted.
Law Enforcement Research & Analysis
• Utilize the Harris County Justice Information Management System/District Attorney Intake Management System (JIMS/DIMS) to obtain relevant information.
• Communicate with outside law enforcement agencies to obtain policy summary reports and supporting documentation.
• Analyze investigative information from multiple sources to support security-sensitive determinations.
• Document investigative findings in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
Appeals Administration & Records Management
• Receive security-sensitive appeals and attach appropriate investigative documentation.
• Forward appeals to the supervisor for review and determination.
• Communicate appeal decisions to the appropriate institutional representative.
• Organize and maintain investigation and appeal files in accordance with institutional and divisional policies.
• Attend weekly CBC meetings to provide operational support.
Recruitment Unit Support
• Review candidate applications in support of recruitment activities.
• Collect documentation required to conduct UT Police employee background checks in accordance with UT Police and ODOP standards.
• Report background investigation findings to appropriate stakeholders.
• Serve as the lead in conducting initial screening interviews for assigned position vacancies.
• Coordinate polygraph testing and related background check activities. EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree From an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years investigative experience.
May substitute Bachelor's degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
