Accounting Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Specialist to join our client's team in Sarasota. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, ensuring accurate payment processing, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping.


Location: Sarasota, FL 34232

Pay Rate: $21/hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Employment Type: Contract to Hire

Responsibilities

• Process and apply incoming payments, including multiple payment types
• Monitor, reconcile, and investigate payment receipts, remittances, and discrepancies
• Apply premium payments to policies accurately and in a timely manner
• Post financial transactions to ledgers, journals, and registers in accordance with established accounting procedures
• Reconcile cash, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts
• Process payments to vendors and agency partners
• Assist with preparation and distribution of year-end 1099 forms
• Support monthly close activities and ensure deadlines are met

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in accounts receivable, payment processing, accounting, or a related financial role
• Strong reconciliation and data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy
• Experience investigating and resolving payment discrepancies
• Knowledge of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
