General Superintendent

Job Description

General Superintendent / Operations Lead, Structural Concrete, Washington DC

Job Type: Full Time

Location: Washington DC / Mid-Atlantic - field based across project sites

Salary: $165,000 – $185,000 base, dependent on experience. Plus truck allowance, gas card and bonus.

About This Opportunity

We are representing a national self-perform concrete contractor with a long-established business in the Mid-Atlantic that is growing quickly.

Their Mid-Atlantic business unit is growing fast and they need a General Superintendent who can run the field. This is not a desk job. You will be out on the projects, supporting and developing the superintendents, planning manpower, sorting problems before they cost money and setting the standard for how the work gets built.

The business unit director is a straight shooter and wants someone the crews will respect because they have done the work themselves.

All applications are treated in the strictest confidence.

About the Company

\n
• National self-perform structural concrete contractor
\n
• Long established, with a growing Mid-Atlantic business unit
\n
• Built around local teams rather than travelling crews, so you stay in one market
\n
• Work across data centers, mixed use and residential high rise, office conversions and parking structures
\n
• Structured mentorship and a defined path for people who want to progress
\n

The Role

You are the senior field leader for the business unit. Your job is to make sure every project is planned properly, manned properly and built properly, and to bring the younger superintendents on so they can do the same.

\n
• Move between the business unit's projects, supporting the superintendents day to day
\n
• Own manpower planning across the jobs - the right number of people in the right place, moved between projects as the work demands
\n
• Work with superintendents on schedules, phase plans, sequencing and look-aheads
\n
• Plan the big pours - access, truck routing, placement rates, staging, and what happens when it does not go to plan
\n
• Oversee formwork, shoring and reshoring systems, and deck cycle performance
\n
• Keep jobs on programme without leaning on overtime to recover them
\n
• Coordinate equipment, materials, line and grade
\n
• Hold the field to safety and quality standards
\n
• Track budget and man hour performance with the project teams
\n
• Manage the relationship with the GC on site - access, sequencing and schedule pressure
\n
• Develop superintendents and foremen, and step in to run a project personally when the business unit needs it
\n

Requirements

\n
• 10+ years running structural concrete projects , with time as a superintendent on the tools or close to them
\n
• Structural, multilevel cast-in-place. Shoring and reshoring, forming and pouring columns and walls, elevated deck cycles, post tension
\n
• You can plan manpower properly - you know when a scope needs four men and someone has put six on it
\n
• Track record of developing younger superintendents and foremen
\n
• Comfortable holding your own with a GC on access, sequencing and schedule
\n
• Authorised to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
\n

Please Do Not Apply If

Being direct saves us both time. These applications will not be considered:

\n
• You have bought concrete as a subcontract package but never run the work yourself
\n
• You have no structural multilevel cast-in-place experience
\n
• You have never led superintendents, foremen or crews
\n
• Your background is purely office based project management
\n
• Your experience is limited to quality control
\n
• Your background is only warehouses or slab on grade
\n

What Is On Offer

\n
• $165,000 – $185,000 base, dependent on experience
\n
• Truck allowance and company gas card
\n
• Bonus eligibility
\n
• Medical and dental insurance, voluntary vision
\n
• 401k with company match, plus HSA option
\n
• Profit share, which every employee participates in
\n
• A genuine field leadership seat rather than a desk with a title
\n
• Work across data centers, mixed use and residential high rise, office conversions and parking structures
\n
• A business unit that is growing, so real progression rather than a static role
\n
