Physician - Dermatology

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines the award amount (up to $200,000) and the eligibility period (one to five years). Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Applicants who are pending completion of required training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification. Alternatives include one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States. Specialty training may be credited toward these requirements. Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license and are appointed on an intermittent basis under a restricted scope of practice. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board eligibility or certification in dermatology. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination and be capable of moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., frequent reaching, and other tasks described in VA Handbook 5019. Duties Provide high‑quality general medical and surgical dermatologic care for inpatients and outpatients at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System. Perform procedures such as biopsy, cryosurgery, electrosurgery, excisions, Mohs surgery, laser surgery, Botox injections, and subcutaneous fillers. Use teledermatology and conduct compensation and pension examinations as required. Work independently and supervise medical students, residents, and mid‑level providers. Adhere to hospital by‑laws and maintain professionalism. Participate in hospital committees, research, and quality improvement projects tailored to the needs of the section and the physician’s expertise.
