Engineering Manager, Transportation Design

Chicago, IllinoisCivil-Transportation – Transportation /Full Time /HybridMilhouse is looking for an energetic and driven Transportation Design Manager to join our downtown Chicago office.As the Section Manager of Transportation Design, you will be responsible for managing your own team of talented engineers, overseeing projects, and ensuring quality delivery for our clients. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced project manager who excels at leading exciting highway or railroad design projects. This position reports directly to Milhouse’s VP of Civil / Transportation and works in a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, work-life balance, and professional growth.What you will do:Lead and manage a transportation design team, providing mentorship and technical guidanceOversee and assist with the development and production of highway plans and specifications from start to finish for Illinois clientsMaintain / grow positive client relationships and assist with business development efforts to continue expansion of our transportation project portfolioCoach, mentor and develop staffPromote a culture of innovation and work-life balanceAssure that Quality Assurance/Quality Control is being performed on every projectWork on billable projects for a majority of your time. Initially, this will likely include IL 38 phase II plans, IL 251 phase I/II, and final design for five Illinois Tollway plazaWho you are:Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a teamTechnical background and experience managing projects for transportation agencies (IDOT, CDOT, Tollway, or transit/rail agencies) that utilize Bentely Microstation, OpenRoads or other transportation related software packagesExcellent time management and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and qualityRobust organization and communication skills as required to create / execute project plans and respond to client requirementsBachelor's degree or higher in Civil EngineeringA minimum of 10 years of progressive experience designing highway/roadway projects which includes 5 years of managing multiple design teams performing the workRegistration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois is requiredAt Milhouse, we’re more than just a place to work — we’re a place to grow, thrive, and be celebrated.
