Grounds Keeper

Quality Staffing, Inc., also doing business as Goddard Mason Executive Search, a leading full-service employment agency matching qualified talent with some of the area's top companies, is seeking experienced Grounds Keepers/Maintenance to work through our agency as a contract employee with the State of Tennessee School for the Blind (TN TSB) located in Nashville, TN . This is an on-site position working from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday . The pay rate for this position is $21.50 per hour.

Grounds Keeper Job Description:

The Grounds Worker will perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of campus grounds and landscapes under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. The work includes the operation of electrically powered and gasoline powered groundskeeping equipment and machines, the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. The Grounds Worker will also perform maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools, will change light bulbs, pressure wash surfaces, paint walls, woodwork, furniture and equipment, make minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs, and deliver supplies, materials and equipment as needed.

Grounds Keeper Duties & Responsibilities:

• Mow lawns and trim grass around walks, flower beds and walls
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth
• Remove damaged leaves, branches, and twigs using mowers, tractors, and other hand and power tools
• Collect and dispose of outside trash and garbage
• Provide proper upkeep of hard surfaces, storm drains, and other ground features
• Lay out and ten flower beds and other decorative vegetation
• Plant, fertilize, water and use herbicides and insecticides to maintain grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
• Remove snow and ice from walks and driveways
• Spread salt, pick up litter, rake, and remove leaves from campus
• Maintain driveways and parking lots
• Repair fences, gates, walls, irrigation systems, walks and outbuildings using carpentry, masonry, pressure washers, and painting tools
• Operate trucks and tractors in grounds preparation and maintenance work
• Assist with maintenance and repairs of equipment, all buildings, structures and grounds
• Assist with plumbing, masonry, carpentry, painting, and minor electrical work
• Arrange facilities for special events and check for safety hazards
• Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated
• Comply with all campus safety policies and procedures
• Apply all applicable OSHA and related safety requirements to all assigned work
• Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner
• Perform related tasks as required

Experience & Qualification Requirements for Grounds Keeper position:

• Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
• Experience equivalent to one year of full-time labor and trades work including some routine grounds maintenance work.
• General knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in general grounds and/or maintenance work.
• Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to operating grounds and/or maintenance equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
• Valid Tennessee driver's license.
• This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, and grasping.
• This position will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
• Special Note : Submitted candidates will be required to submit to and pass a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting, to include Tennessee and Federal criminal history checks, child abuse records, employment verification, and professional/personal reference checks. Due to the position being at a school, any discrepancies in the background check or fingerprinting report will result in the candidate being disqualified from consideration.
