Description

American Traveler is hiring a Whole House Float RN comfortable working ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units
• 703-bed acute care teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics)
• Magnet-designated facility affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• ICU average ratio 2:1, PCU average ratio 5:1, MS average ratio 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• EPIC charting experience required
• Staffing needs reevaluated every 4 hours; may float 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement of EOW or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
• One holiday required per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period

Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for single-state non-compact candidates)
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (CPI preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I/II trauma facility
• Experience with patient ratios of at least 1:5 required
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line, central line, and arterial line management
• Experience with blood product administration and trach management required
• Proficient in non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilator management
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation and emergency medications
• Knowledge of IV insulin protocols and infection prevention/isolation precautions
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Charge experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MS units based on facility staffing needs
• Work within a Level I Trauma Center supporting both adult and pediatric populations
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted, subject to radius rules for eligibility and pay rate
• Candidates residing within 100 miles are generally considered local and not accepted, with limited exceptions for inpatient RN assignments at reduced eligibility or bill rate
• Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
• Holiday coverage requirement increases to two holidays during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
