DESIGN ASSISTANT

Los Angeles, CA · Full-Time, On-Site · Reports to Senior Designers · FLSA Exempt · 1–2 years experience THE OPPORTUNITY This is a hands-on design and project support role for an entry-level designer who is eager to develop skills across all phases of high-end residential work. You’ll work closely with the Principals and Senior Designers, contributing across concept design through design development, construction, procurement, and installation. This role demands range: creativity, organization, and the ability to adapt to multiple design styles and delivery methods. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Designers in all phases of Projects. Manage the maintenance and organization of the resource library. Includes coordinating the return of samples and materials to vendors. Assist in creating and maintaining organized project files, schedules, budgets, client presentations, and specifications. Aid the Design teams in drafting floor plans, elevations, and furniture in AutoCAD. Assist the designers in developing fabric palettes and furniture selections to truly grasp the firm’s aesthetic. Assist in developing space planning, design concepts, furniture design, custom furniture drawings, and furniture layouts. Obtain quotes, prepare specifications, create purchase orders, and expedite orders for furniture, lighting, accessories, and artwork. Coordinate with the purchasing department for client proposal submittals. Assist the Procurement Manager with issuing purchase orders and balancing dues. Communicate and collaborate with vendors, furniture dealers, product representatives, and fabricators throughout the project to meet the overall project objectives. Collaborate with Principal, Design Director, and Senior Designers on installations and photo shoots. Travel to the PDC, job sites, and various vendors to select materials and pick up items for the design teams. (NOTE: A personal vehicle is required for travel, and you will be reimbursed for any mileage to and from PDC or other vendors.) Assist with general administrative tasks as needed. Coordinate with outside vendors, architects, contractors, and consultants in a highly professional manner. Utilize Asana to complete assigned project tasks. Be timely and communicative regarding issues, tasks, and deadlines. Ensure expectations remain on track and/or are adjusted appropriately. Inform the team of progress achieved toward goals and/or potential project conflicts and emerging issues. YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 1-2 years of interior design experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field. Must be available to work in-office 5 days a week Strong technical skills using AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketchup, and 3D modeling. Working knowledge of construction documents. Ability to read redlined documents & revise design files. Advanced written skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Strong work ethic and self-motivation. Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and through email. Ability to think critically, solve problems, take initiative, and work independently.
