Shift Lead

Key Skills and Characteristics Outgoing, upbeat, and people‑person Sales‑driven with strong organizational skills Thrives in a high‑energy environment Passionate about pets and their owners Strong leadership abilities and ability to mentor team members Responsibilities Lead the Sales Associate team, setting standards for performance and encouraging cross‑team collaboration. Assist customers with sales, service, and overall experience to achieve sales and KPI goals. Act as Manager on Duty when required, prioritizing daily goals, tasks, and assignments for the associate team. Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude in all verbal, written, and email communications. Partner with the Store Manager to plan and execute community events and build relationships with rescue agencies. Ensure a safe and clean store environment, attending to the cleanliness and well‑being of all livestock, animals, and fish systems. Support restocking of merchandise, moving products from stockroom to sales floor, and maintaining pet enclosures with appropriate food and water. Help conduct physical inventories, verify accuracy, and manage shrink goals. Execute opening and closing procedures and communicate any concerns to store management. Assist with new hire training, merchandising guidelines, and community event execution. Qualifications Minimum 1 year of retail or customer service experience. Strong customer focus and communication skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle is preferred. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Heavy lifting up to 55 lbs may be required several times throughout a shift. Work primarily at the selling floor, standing, moving, and occasionally working alone. Expectations include active listening, observation, and maintaining a temperature‑stable environment. Potential for accidental injuries from pets; common injuries include slips, trips, falls, and strains/sprains. Competencies Customer focus and continuous improvement through first‑hand feedback.
