Medical Assistant-Certified Infectious Disease

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C) provides essential clinical support in an infectious disease outpatient clinic setting. This role involves performing vital sign measurements, preparing patients for exams, assisting with procedures, administering injections, collecting specimens, conducting laboratory tests, and managing various office duties. The MA-C works under established protocols to ensure efficient patient care and smooth clinic operations, requiring strong clinical skills, knowledge of aseptic techniques, and proficiency with EPIC charting. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with a standard weekday schedule. Responsibilities:

• Obtain and record vital signs including height, weight, pulse oximetry, and 12-lead EKG/ECG.
• Prepare patients for examinations by positioning, draping, and recording medical history, medications, and allergies.
• Set up and assist with clinical procedures such as dressing changes, Pap smears, and sterile tray preparation.
• Administer immunizations and other injections (intradermal, intramuscular).
• Collect and label specimens including sputum, stool, throat, urine (clean catch), vaginal, and wound samples.
• Perform laboratory tests such as strep tests and urine dipstick/urinalysis.
• Manage office duties including authorization forms, chart preparation, insurance verification, supply ordering, pharmacy communications, appointment scheduling, and telephone triage.
• Apply professional skills such as medication administration, TB test administration, aseptic technique, wound care, suture removal, patient rooming, and follow-up phone calls.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C) credential (no MA-R, MA-P, or MA-HT allowed).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 6 months experience as an MA-C in an adult outpatient clinic setting.
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.
• Strong clinical skills including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, and injections.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control procedures.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in infectious disease clinic environments.
• Familiarity with telephone triage and insurance verification processes.
• Ability to perform wound care and suture removal.

Special Considerations:

• No weekend work required; Monday through Friday schedule.
• No on-call or floating between units; consistent work location.

Scheduling:

• Full-time schedule: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
