Step into a rewarding opportunity to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter during the 2026–2027 academic year. Based near Montrose, Colorado, this contract role offers the chance to make a significant impact within a school setting by promoting student access to educational instruction and school activities.
In this critical position, you will:
- Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation throughout the instructional day for assigned students
- Interpret during classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, meetings, and other school-related settings
- Facilitate clear communication between students, educators, and school personnel to create an inclusive environment
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing instructional materials as needed to ensure accurate interpretation
- Uphold confidentiality in alignment with FERPA and the district’s policies
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to enhance student success
- Maintain high professional standards and adhere to ethical guidelines for educational interpreting
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Colorado Educational Interpreter Authorization (or eligibility to obtain)
- Associate’s degree or higher in Educational Interpreting, ASL, or a related field
- Successful completion of the EIPA Written Examination
- EIPA Performance Score of 3.5 or higher or current RID Certification
- Understanding of, and ability to meet, all Colorado Department of Education and district employment requirements (including background screening)
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with a demonstrated commitment to student access and success
This position follows a Monday–Friday, full-time schedule that aligns with the district’s academic calendar.
