School Nurse - Bilingual

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of School Nurse within the Office of Health Services. An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate or eligible for an Emergency license as deemed necessary by the New Jersey Department of Education is required. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and current New Jersey registered professional nurse license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing are also required. Preferred minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a registered nurse. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak English. Spanish/Portuguese/French Creole is a plus.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

• Develops a comprehensive health record on each new student that registers for school including an appropriate health history.
• Performs routine screenings of vision and hearing, weighing and measuring, and blood pressure and visual dental check.
• Interprets the findings of the physical examination to parents, teacher and child to motivate the student to take an interest and develop a responsibility for his own health.
• Provides emergency medical care for all employees and arranges for care and follow-up at an appropriate emergency room or at the facility designated by the district.
• Counsels parents, teachers and students concerning medical and health related information.
• Reviews every medical record annually to provide information to parents and administration concerning the immunization status of all school students as is required by law.
• Assists in planning and maintaining a safe and healthful school environment.
• Dispenses medication prescribed by a physician in keeping with the current guidelines set forth by the Medical Director.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Reports To: Executive Director of Health Services

Salary: $70,000- $114,750 (plus $3,000 stipend)

Employment Period: Ten (10) months
