GENERAL MANAGER, SPARROW CAFEThe general manager of a Sparrow cafe is the leader of the cafe, responsible foroperations, staff management, customer experience, financial oversight, inventory andsupplier coordination, and marketing and growth.Key responsibilities:● Lead the day-to-day activities of the staff and managers in the cafe to achieve or exceedtargeted sales goals, speed of service, standard operating procedures, consistent foodand beverage quality, safety standards, customer satisfaction, exceptional hospitality,cleanliness and overall ambience.● Proficient in all operations of the cafe including opening, mid, and closing shifts.● Oversee cafe equipment maintenance and cleanliness to maintain a fully functional andwelcoming cafe to both staff and guests.● Ensure the Daily Cafe Functions checklist is delegated and completed in a timelymanner.● Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and any local, state andfederal laws, including but not limited to staff benefits, PTO, and mandatory training.● Ensure the cafe and cafe staff consistently meets food and beverage safety standardsaccording to the IL Health Department.● Complete the weekly staff schedule in a timely manner● Consistently hire, develop, and retain a strong team to ensure appropriate staffing levels.● Oversee the hiring, coaching, training, promotion, disciplinary action, termination, or thetransfer of any team member.● Foster a work culture of continued coaching, learning, development and recognition.● Address any customer needs and resolve issues, complaints, and reviews in aprofessional and timely manner, ensuring positive and long-term customer relationships.● Attend weekly finance meetings and be fluent in the current metrics of the Scorecard:monitor weekly cost of goods, sales, labor, and Google reviews. Predict weekly salesforecasts for labor/scheduling needs and make adjustments to inventories and laboraccordingly. Be able to explain current scorecard trends.● Maintain cooperative relationships with vendors, local businesses and communityprograms.● Work collaboratively and have open communication with all Sparrow departmentsincluding the Sparrow Partners, Roastery Staff, Payroll, Human Resources, Office, andIT.● Other duties as assigned.Behaviors: ● Positive Attitude! Be a team player.● Ability to prioritize communication and communicate openly and clearly with staff andmanagersWorking location and conditions:● Available to work a flexible on-site schedule including days, nights, weekends andholidays.● Available to travel to other Sparrow sites including roastery, as needed, for meetings,training, etc.● Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, email, and other computer applications as needed.● Must be able to stand for prolonged periods up to 8 hours.● Must be able to stoop, bend, and walk repetitively for prolonged periods up to 8 hours.● Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.Minimum Qualifications:● Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a cafe or restaurant environment.
