Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU
Position Overview

As a Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), you deliver advanced critical care to patients following cardiac surgery or with complex cardiovascular conditions.

You manage hemodynamic monitoring, ventilatory support, and multidisciplinary care coordination to optimize recovery.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous hemodynamic monitoring and manage vasoactive infusions.
• Administer medications, analgesia, and sedatives per protocol; respond to changes in status.
• Assist with invasive procedures and post-operative care, including wound and drain management.
• Collaborate with surgeons, perfusionists, and the ICU team for care planning.
• Document care plans, interventions, and patient progress in the EHR.
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge planning.
• Lead or participate in bedside rounds and ensure timely escalation when needed.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred; ADN with critical care training acceptable.

Licensure:

Current, active RN license in the state of employment.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
• CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) preferred

Experience or Skills:

Strong critical care nursing skills, familiarity with ARDS/TICV protocols, and proficiency with EHR and hemodynamic monitoring.

Experience

• 2-4 years of ICU or CVICU experience in a hospital setting.
• Experience with post-operative cardiac patients and mechanical ventilation.

Preferred

• BSN; CCRN certification; experience with ECMO or advanced hemodynamic monitoring.

Work Environment

High-acuity CVICU with continuous observation and rapid response requirements.

Rotating shifts, on-call coverage, and structured handoffs; documentation using integrated clinical systems and imaging data.
