REVENUE AUDIT SUPERVISOR

Position Overview We are hiring a Revenue Audit Supervisor for our Sales and Miscellaneous Tax Field Compliance Division/Fairview Heights located in Fairview Heights, IL. In this position you will supervise and review the activities of Revenue Auditors, providing guidance, instruction and resolution when needed. Essential Functions Under general direction, plans, assigns, supervises and reviews the activities of a staff of Auditors engaged in performing field audits of Illinois and/or out-of-state taxpayers subject to one or more taxes administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR). Interprets and explains the proper application of sales and miscellaneous tax laws, rules, regulations and opinions. Serves as working supervisor. Performs pre-audit evaluation to establish suitability of case to Auditor skill level, scope and procedures to be employed. Travels to taxpayer’s place of business, to conduct post-audit conferences with taxpayers, or their representatives, to explain audit findings predicated on applicable tax laws rules, regulations, court decisions and precedents. Confers by telephone, or, as necessary, travels to taxpayer’s place of business to discuss and resolve technical or controversial tax issues with taxpayers and/or their representatives. Confers with manager to provide information as to status of ongoing audits, or obtain guidance in resolving controversial or complex legal and/or technical tax problems. Reviews and approves completed computerized audit reports. Provides continuous communication and feedback to staff regarding performance, completing timely reviews and annual evaluations which clearly reflect the employee’s accomplishments and contributions, as well as shortcomings. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree. Requires successful completion of fifteen semester hours of academically progressive coursework in accounting, including at minimum: two introductory accounting courses, two intermediate accounting courses, one course in taxation or audit. Requires two years professional experience as a Revenue Auditor III. Qualification Path B: Requires a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or a Certified Public Accountant certification, and two years professional experience as a Revenue Auditor III. Specialized Skills Requires 4 years of experience working with Sales and Miscellaneous Tax auditing processes and utilizing GenTax for audit purposes. Requires 2 years of experience in a coach and/or mentor role as a Revenue Auditor III. Preferred Qualifications Four (4) years of experience working with Sales and Miscellaneous Tax auditing processes. Four (4) years of experience using GenTax or similar tax processing system for audit purposes. Two (2) years of experience working as a lead/advanced auditor in a coach/mentor role to lower-level auditors in an organization. Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate; requires a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply; employee must notify OEIG before accepting non‑State employment within one year. This position requires filing a Statement of Economic Interest and a Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest as required by Illinois Governmental Ethics Act. Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
