Description: Unit consists of 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6. Common diagnoses include respiratory and medical conditions. Patients are primarily adults and geriatrics. Candidates should have experience managing trachs (non-vented) and peritoneal dialysis is preferred. RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, Cardizem (up to 15 mg/hr), Lasix, Dopamine (low dose renal perfusion), and Amiodarone. There are monitor techs available 24/7. Charge nurses will have modified patient assignments and may also fill in the charge nurse role. Nurse aids are present on the unit with a ratio of 1 to 10 during the day and 1 to 15 at night. Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen. Shifts are from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Scheduling is managed by the director or floor manager with block scheduling allowed based on unit needs. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday schedules are rotated with core staff preferences considered. Floating may be required to other units such as Med-Surg or the Emergency Department as needed. Dress code is navy scrubs for RNs and LPNs, solid colors without embroidery or patterns. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory. Initial skills checklist due within 90 days. The charting system used is EPIC.
