Nurse Practitioner

Job Type: Officer of Administration Regular/Temporary: Regular Hours Per Week: 35 Salary Range: $135,000 - $165,000 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine clinical team. Working collaboratively with General Pulmonology physicians, the Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive clinical care and support to established outpatient populations while practicing within the scope of licensure and under physician supervision, as applicable. This position is responsible for conducting follow-up visits, coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams, enhancing patient access, and promoting continuity of care. The Nurse Practitioner plays a key role in patient education, chronic disease management, and optimizing clinical operations while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care consistent with the highest standards of clinical excellence, professionalism, and compassion. Responsibilities Collaborate with General Pulmonology physicians during outpatient clinic sessions to deliver comprehensive, team-based patient care. Conduct follow-up visits for established patients during outpatient clinic sessions at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and/or Midtown campus. Provide clinical support at the NewYork-Presbyterian White Plains campus, including The One, as operational needs require. Document all patient encounters accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner within the Epic electronic health record. Provide in-basket coverage for physicians, including responding to patient messages, triaging clinical concerns, coordinating prescription refills, resolving pharmacy-related issues, and escalating matters requiring physician intervention. Support physician coverage during scheduled absences by managing patient communications, evaluating urgent clinical needs under supervision, and helping ensure continuity of care. Facilitate medication management activities, including prescription refills, prior authorizations, specialty medication coordination, and participation in peer-to-peer reviews as appropriate. Assist with the ordering and coordination of durable medical equipment (DME), including supplemental oxygen, non-invasive ventilation devices, and other pulmonary-related equipment. Accommodate urgent and same-day patient visits in response to clinical and operational needs. Provide patient and family education related to pulmonary disease management, prescribed therapies, inhaler technique, oxygen therapy, biologic administration, and other treatment plans. Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, administrative staff, and other healthcare professionals to support efficient and high-quality patient care. Participate in continuing medical education and professional development activities to maintain clinical competency and knowledge of pulmonary medicine. Exercise sound clinical judgment, work independently within the scope of practice, and identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Promote patient engagement through enrollment and active use of the Epic MyChart patient portal. Foster professional, respectful, and collaborative relationships with patients, providers, colleagues, and departmental staff. Assist physicians with office-based procedures as appropriate and within the scope of practice. Maintain current knowledge of Columbia University policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. Perform other related duties as assigned.
